Welcome, I’m glad you’re here.  My name is Karen Tumbleson and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with nearly 20 years of experience.

Over time, I’ve worked with people walking through a multitude of life challenges. Relationship issues, grief, anxiety, work stress, difficulty with decisions, personal stress and depression are just a few reasons that may create a need for counseling. Often, working with a counselor can be more helpful than talking to family or friends.  I can offer you a safe, non-judgmental, all-to-yourself place to sort through the specifics of your situation.

 

Brief, solution-focused therapy is the approach I most often use.  This may look a little different depending on a client’s needs and goals but, generally, it means identifying the problem and setting goals for change.  Then, counseling time is spent taking specific steps towards feeling better as quickly as possible.  My background is varied (Hospice work, marital and family therapy, employee assistance counseling, and treating emotional issues), but I’ve found that solution-focused therapy works in a wide range of situations.  This is because people usually come to counseling with the simple desire to move past whatever is currently bothering them.   The more quickly that can happen, the more motivation and energy that can be gained in the process.

Areas of Specialty:

Relationship Issues- This includes any area where you feel things could be better between yourself and another person.  Often, we create patterns of behavior in relationships that are harmful even though that is not the intent.  Other times, situations can develop that cause stress and strain between people.

Life Functioning- Anxiety, fear, depression or anything that hinders your ability to feel content and fulfilled can effect day to day functioning.

Personal Growth-    Improving self-esteem, addressing negative habits and patterns, creating beneficial habits, and stress relief would be areas in this category.

Health Issues- Coping with personal illness or injury or dealing with the loss or illness of someone you love can create unique stress and emotional strain.

It is realistic to expect positive change in these areas with the help of counseling.  The effort and energy invested are well worth the effort.  Let’s work together!  I look forward to it.
